The ego feels it has to attain something, to do something, to achieve this happiness, this wholeness at some future time. It is a great industry run by other egos that become wealthy on selling this point. Churches, temples, synagogues, are filled with hopefuls of future salvation. I used to do all kinds of tests to make me worthy of being loved by God. Successful in some, failed in others.
