I loved this piece, although it is rather somber. Everyone has their part to play. I don't remember hordes of tourists in the 80s when I was there. That sounds horrid, and not for me. I'll take the off season. I avoid tourist places, although having my studio in the heart of Carmel I get to watch the long streams of them, doing their tourist thing. In this area there was a tourist season, now its pretty much year round. I do enjoy hearing different languages and seeing people from around the world. And lots of dogs! And lots of fancy cars (could care less). But, unlike you, I ascend to my studio and shut out the world. Only with your attitude can you make the play enjoyable. Boring would hook me in, for sure.
