America is dealing with the reckoning of slavery and all its ramifications. This is a good thing. The shadow of this and all the subsequent racism is coming to the national consciousness. This is a start. The darker shadow of genocide that has occurred on this land most Americans are not willing to see. It is too painful if you explore the dark depths of our history. But it will come. I believe in what the elders of the Hopi say, that we are at the end of the Fourth World.

Tonight at dinner, my wife, who is half Cherokee, was sharing with friends the history of the stolen children, taken from the People and raised as White. She is one of them. Her grandparents were of both Cherokee Tribes. Her father, when he was younger, pretended to be Jewish and had nothing to do with his roots. While he looks Native American, my wife is fair, so her mother raised her as white.
