A very insightful article on a challenging subject. And a complicated one. It is not always pursuing one's career that elders are placed in homes. If you are a single parent, feeding many mouths and are on a tight budget, you cannot affort to hire care to take care of your parent(s). You bring nature into the equation. Mother nature is very effecient in how she operates and wields her sword most effectively. In many Native American traditions, when an elder could no longer serve the tribe, they would walk off into the wilderness not to be a burden. Every situation is different.
